How it works

1. Choose a PDF from your device, or drop it on the page.
2. Wait for the conversion. Files up to 100 MB are processed in your browser.
3. Download the .docx file and open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

This converter reads the text, headings, tables and images in a PDF and writes them into a Word document. You can edit the result without retyping the file. Conversion runs in your browser, so the PDF stays on your device.

What carries over into Word

• Headings. The three largest heading levels become Word's Heading 1 to Heading 3 styles, so the document has a usable outline.
• Bold, italic and underline formatting on text.
• Tables, with their borders when the PDF draws them.
• Multi-column pages, which become borderless two-column tables so the reading order is kept.
• Images, placed where they appear on the page.

What may need a manual check

Complex layouts, text boxes, overlapping objects and unusual fonts may not match the original exactly. Spacing, page breaks and table widths are the things most often adjusted after conversion. Compare the Word file with the PDF before you share it.

Scanned PDFs need OCR first

A scan is a picture of a page, so it contains no text for the converter to read. If you cannot select text in the PDF, run OCR PDF first to add a text layer, then convert the result.

Limits and protected files

Files up to 100 MB are processed on your device and are never uploaded. Files from 100 to 200 MB can be processed on our server if you agree, and they are deleted within 60 minutes. Pro supports files up to 2 GB.

If the PDF is protected, unlock it first with the Unlock PDF tool, which needs the password.
